The Santorini volcano tour is a 3 hour visit to Santorini’s volcano and its craters and to the Hot Springs of Palaia Kameni by boat.

The Santorini volcano tour starts from the picturesque old port of Fira.

Gialos, the Old Port, lies below Fira, nestled at the foot of a rocky cliff. You will be surprised with the steep slopes of the Caldera and in the end the tiny port will appear under these huge rocks and the cave houses that seem to dangle on the cliff. There the guides of your excursion will be waiting for you, to give you all the important information and to orientate you on the boat.

Our first destination will be the famous volcano of Santorini! After 20 minutes sailing, we will reach Nea Kameni. If you are interested to be guided at the volcano, you will walk to the volcano’s ridge with your guide and you will listen to everything about the history and the geology of the volcano. You will stay at the volcanic island for 1,5 hour.

Next we reach by boat the island of Palea Kameni with the hot springs, the famous mud baths, which were formed as result of volcanic eruptions.

In the small bay of Agios Nikolaos the water temperature ranges from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, as it mixes continuously with the normal sea currents. The waters are mixed with mud that they are full of sulfur, iron and other metals coming from the volcano and they are very good for the skin, rheumatism, arthritis and other physical pains. Important Note : In order to reach Agios Nicholaos’ beach is essential to swim extremely well

The boat will be staying here about 30 minutes to allow you a healthy bath. After the bath, you will return to the old port of Fira.

This port is only accessible by cable car (which is the most common way as it takes only 3 minutes to go down), 587 steps on foot or for those who love the adventure, the local donkeys is the ideal choice to reach it.

Important note : You should pay 6€ more per way either for the cable car ticket or to ride one of the donkeys.

						A Great experience - amazing views of the Caldera. Amazing views of the caldera and cliff top houses from the boat journey and volcano itself. The order of our trip changed starting with the hot springs swim and then onto the volcano. History of Volcano’s eruptions and islands evolution is provided. Take a towel and wear your swim clothes ready for the plunge (or steps) into the sea. Only limited changing areas on board, but drinks available to buy on the boat. A few places of shelter on the island but intensely hot in summer. Wear trainers as path is mainly small rocks and stones. Very good value for money. 5 Euros each for volcano entrance.

						Bof Excursion, volcano , warm waters and Thirassia , the volcano is not only paying (5€ per person on top of the excursion Award) We walk in the mountains at the peak of the sun , we just have time to go up and down , the volcano itself has no interest but I admit that the view from the summit and spectacular!

						Volcano hike and swim The volcano tour is a great way to learn about the formation of Santorini. There is a semi challenging hike involved , but it is worth it. This tour takes you to a portion of the volcano that is still alive today breathing hot air that you can see and touch. Once the hike is over the boat takes you to a hot springs area. This swim up area has cliff face views that even had goats on the mountain side. This was a great add on to the volcano tour.

						Great Excursion with a great price Great excursion for great price. We did this with our 14,12,10 year old children and everyone had a great time. It’s a bit of a hike to the top but well worth the view.

						Apparently the tour was closing the tour, upon the arrival to a couple getting there just before our group of 5. Due to our cruise ship delaying tethering process for rough waters, we were running late by about 20 minutes. I called from the ship and reported that we were finally heading to the island and the receptionist that answered stated she would be there at the office. Upon our arrival along with another couple that was there before us from the ship and the office was closed. The couple with us reported they were told the tour was canceled and all parties would receive a refund. As yet I have not determined this was done. At this time I am not sure if the tour was canceled due to the rough waters or being 15 to 20 minutes late from the scheduled 1pm time.

						Fine tour considering the price Poor organising at the starting point of the tour, but once we got on the boat, the rest of the tour was fine. Enough time at the volcano; the second stop at the hot springs was a bit too short if you were not first in line to jump off the boat.

						Amazing views, but expect no lava flows As many commenters indicated, you must get a paper ticket at the port downstairs. The office was easy to find.Sneakers or hiking shoes highly recommended for the volcano trip. Some people in my group managed go to the summit and back wearing sandals and even flipflops, but that would be a challenge. The path is largely covered by sharp lava gravel.Don't forget a bottle of water, it was quite hot.For termal springs swimming, you could add a pair of water shoes, because there are many sharp rocks in the bottom. Wear dark swimsuit, the bright materials would be stained by iron and sulfur in water, stains difficult to remove.Generally I am very satisfied with the trip. My 10 year son was fascinated with the views, but he was a little dissapointed seeing no lava flows :) The only visible ongoing volcanic activity were some fumaroles with sulfur stains.The guide, Anna, was top notch.

						Santorini Volcano and hot springs tour It was a nice cruise to the volcano. The volcano was great. The volcanic Sulphur hot springs were a little disappointing. You have to be a good swimmer to swim to them. I am not so I just had to watch others. If I had known that, I would have picked a different excursion. The staff was very nice.

						Fascinating - wear appropriate shoes Allow enough time to get to the old port. We were told to exchange the online voucher for tickets at a excursion agency at the old port. Google maps couldn’t find the location because it’s actually on the port level directly in front of where the boat departs. We had allowed plenty of time and even though it took us a few wrong turns (about 30 minutes worth), we made it in time. We took the cable car down - beautiful views and very comfortable however, in March, it doesn’t operate very frequently. We climbed the 600+ steps up to old town Fira - not for the faint hearted or less fit. It took about 20-25 minutes to get to island by boat. The tour of the volcano was interesting. The guide spoke English very well and she was very knowledgeable. Please wear proper walking shoes… it’s a bit of a hike to the top where clouds of sulphur are visible and one can feel the heat of the active volcano by touching the ground. The views are stunning. The tour allows enough time to explore. The hot springs are another 20 mins or so boat ride away. One needs to be a reasonable swimmer as the boat anchors a short swim from the actual hot spring. The crew supply noodles - may not be necessary for strong swimmers. In late March the water was cold but the hot spring water was very pleasant. Warning, the rocks and water stain lighter coloured swimwear! Light snacks and drinks are available for purchase on the bust. The crew were friendly and helpful. All in all this was great value for money.

						A very pleasant morning A very pleasant morning.Allow 20 minutes if you walk down to the port, where you have to collect first your tickets.The crossing is quite fast and once there, the climb lasts more or less 25 minutes after paying 2.5 € of fee entrance. The guide was very kind, she explained how Néa Kaméni island took shape. But it also allows you to admire Santorini from another angle. Bring a cap, sunscreen and comfortable sneakers.Back to the boat, direction the Hot Springs where you have a swimming stop of 30 minutes. Note that your swimsuit may smell sulphur. I personally stayed on board.And then you come back to Santorini.

						Nice The biggest problem with this was how to get there. Slightly complicated as it’s not super clear. It’s either a 20 minute walk down the stairs or a cable car ride with is quite expensive. Other than that this tour was very enjoyable.

						Very good for it’ price! It was really good for its price. You can buy drinks, water and snacks on board. Hot springs visit is not very long but I don’t think it’s needed to be fair. Would nice to have another break for a swim.

						Volcano Hike This was an excellent tour the only issue we had was checking in for the trip. The receipt instructed us to go to a travel agent to pick up our tickets. The agency has difficult to find and then told us our receipt was the tickets. Overall the trip was fun, it was hot at 2 o'clock in the afternoon so bring plenty of water, the hike up the volcano was steep but not bad from this fifty plus hiker.

						Santorini Volcano Tour Awesome tour and good value for money. The boat was very comfortable and clean. The tour guide and the boat operators were courteous and professional. We had enough time to explore the sights that we visited at our leisure, including climbing to the top to take a look at the crater of the volcano. In summary, it was an enjoyable trip.

						Nice Trip but short stay at the hot springs The Boat Trip was nice even though the space was limited. The first stop at the Vulcanic Island was too long while the stop at the hot springs was very short (maybe 20 minutes).
