In this Half Day Tour to Central Zagori from Ioannina, we’ll live the complete experience of the central Zagori and its history. The beauty of Zagori is reknowned for the stone villages, the bridges and Vikos canyon. 

We begin our tour from Ioannina and we follow the path “up to the road” that leads to the place behind the mountain (Zagori means the place behind the mountain).

Our first stop will be at the Stone Forest in Monodentri village. These karstic limestone structures, located 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) above sea level, look like rock slabs stacked on top of one another. This stunning field of rocks, rising around oak and maple trees, can be found on the way to the Oxia viewpoint and is a great spot to stop before enjoying the view.

Then we proceed to the point “Oxia”, right after Monodendri, where the Vikos canyon is located in the Vikos – Aoos National Park. This location offers one of the best views, if not the best, to the Gorge.

Then we’ll visit some of the stone arch bridges.  More than 160 arched bridges were built in the greater area of Zagori, many of which still stand helping travelers to cross the numerous rivers and streams of the region. They were mostly built during the 18th and 19th centuries by local master craftsmen using local stone. These bridges usually have one to three arches called “kamares” in Greek. 

We visit 4 bridges, Kapetan Arkouda bridge, Kokkori – Noutsou bridge (where you will also be informed about Vitsa and Dilofo villages), Plakidas or Kalogeriko bridge in Kipoi (where you will also be informed about the village) and Lazaridi bridge where you will be informed about Koukouli village.

Then we visit Kapesovo village to see the Vradeto steps.

In the end we’ll reach the main village of Zagori, Tsepelovo, where we will enjoy our beverage right before our return.

This tour was superb and well worth the time. Our guide is one of the best we have had. She was so enthusiastic and passionate about all the history and region. She was very personable and shared many other things we could do in ioannina. She would be a fabulous guide for any tour. Loved it.

Another Great tour with our Guide Ioannis. He did a great job adjusting the tour to our requests. He is very passionate, knowledgeable and proud about this area. Ioannis navigated the roads safe and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge about the local area. The Bridges were quit interesting and the Gorge was amazing. The pictures and video’s were a nice bonus to receive. I highly recommend this tour.
We were also fortunate enough to have booked the Tzoumerka villages 1 day tour the previous day with Ioannis.

The Zagori trip was amazing I’d recomend it to anyone. We had a very full day seeing the villages with all stone houses, roads and fences. The stone bridges were just amazing to see and walk on with the crystal clear water underneath and of course looking at the most breathtaking views along the way. Our guide was awesome he really went above and beyond for us, he had so much knowledge of the area and made sure we were having the best trip and making sure we were always comfortable and understandimg everything. we learnt so much as well as getting lots of pictures and videos of our trip for us!! We had a lovely lunch at a beautiful traditional restaurant as well. This is a must do tour and great value for money

Ioannis is an amazing guide and expert on so many aspects of the region which he clearly loves. I cannot imagine there is anybody more qualified to bring the area to life . The trip was exactly as described with all stops and points of interest covered at a suitably leisurely pace , with time for a lovely lunch. Thoroughly recommended.
