Kalambaka is a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, crowned by the Meteora Monasteries.
We enjoy dinner and stay overnight in Kalambaka.
After our breakfast, we depart for nearby Meteora surrounder by a particularly impressive scenery. Here, ageless Monasteries containing priceless historical and religious treasures, stand suspended between earth and sky, on top of granite rocks.
We return to Athens via Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae (short stop to see across the road the Leonida’s Monument).
Arrive in Athens early in the evening.
guide top, well organised and very experienced – driver also top / especially since the green mountains are narrow and high and it required managing some not so unrisky driving situations – so actually this is a 5 star tour HOWEVER, where the deduction down to only 3 stars really happened due to 2 things 1) the selected hotels (even in the more premium 4 star and not the 3 star option) where quite poor, the 1st hotel was good but the other 2 were really poor (cleanliness, broken stuff in the room and food at those hotels really being inedible) 2) the food stops that were made were mostly at very poor places (pls check google reviews – they were all around 2 stars for those places, poor food and prices 2/3x higher than the other greek places around/in Athens ) – clearly the company had special agreements with those locations to drive traffic fair enough but then select at least places that have good reviews from people
It was a very well organized and packed tour. We really enjoyed it very much. we have learned so much during these four days. The towns , sites we went are all world famous with the breathtaking views.
We also had good food and nice hotels . The tour guide is very knowledgeable and he provided a lot of information that we can’t find on the internet or tour books. We will highly recommend it to everyone.
Compact trip to the highlights in Greece. Very good tour guide! Very good hotels with good food. Unfortunately you lose time with the lunch breaks. Good bus with very good driver.
This tour brought us to a number of hard to get to locations. However, we were unexpected placed on another tour provider which eliminated a location from the itinerary. All of the hotels placed us in out of the central portions of town so we could not explore at night unless we got a taxi or walked 30 minutes in the dark or unlit road. We should have been told the hotel location before. The lunch locations were in the middle of nowhere. We were told this where you eat with no other options and it was around 20€ every lunch. The tour guide was knowledgeable but not personable and did not take any time to get get to know the group members at all. Especially since there were only 5 participants. However, the locations were well worth the visit.
